I saw this book The Chessmen of Mars with exactly that cover when I was a child in the Philippines.  It was at a bookstore in Metro Manila.  Then began my growing fascination with sci-fi.

Astronomy Fan and Desert Worlds

Why am I so fascinated with astronomy?  I know it's unlikely I ever will set foot outside of Earth.  And I know most planets and moons out there are hot and cold deserts.  Yet, I like deserts.  I live here on Lulu Island, which is a desert.  There are living, even habitable, worlds out there, exoplanetists know.  My imagination compensates for unsatiated reality.

The Bolivian Space Agency or Agencia Boliviana Espacial has satellites around Earth orbit.

MOM and MAVEN

India's space agency ISRO has their Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) aka Mangalyaan now in orbit around Mars, as it takes pictures.  This spacecraft is contemporaneous with American NASA's MAVEN, also now orbiting Mars.

Star Wars

I grew up with Star Wars, which is more like science fantasy.  I enjoy reading the Japanese version of the novels, based on the movies.

Star Trek

I grew up with all the Star Trek shows.  I know the shows are just a model of what the far future could be, as in a military spacecraft or space station.  The real future could be entirely different, though.

JUICE

Europe's space agency ESA is investing hundreds of millions of euros on JUICE, the Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer.

Luna and Mars

The Russian space agency Roscosmos wants to see their people in habitats on the moon.  Good news!  American NASA turns to Mars, which the Japanese have codenamed Planet-B.

Fourists and Fiveists

The Fourists think the universe is an illusion, a phantasm, whilst the Fiveists think the universe has real substantiality.

Gliding Craft

In the gardens in the Philippines and the misty horizontal freezers in Canada, I used to imagine, as a kid, a gliding craft.  I swooped with my hand or a paper plane.
